Hidalgo County Tax Collector Pablo Villarreal tells the residents they will pay penalties if they don’t pay their taxes on their property by January 31st. If they miss the deadline and they owed $15,000 in property taxes, they will pay over $1,000 in penalties. Payments can be accepted through E-Check. They can also pay with credit cards but there is a 2.5% fee online, you can also pay by taking your tax statement to Lone Star National Bank. They can also go to any county tax office. As of Jan. 15, 175,000 people have already paid their taxes. Over $106 million has already been collected for the county.
